Unreal basket of Wright over Benson

Long three for Josh Benson

Future Flyers Josh Benson & Chris Wright go for the ball as the Trotwood/Dunbar game began

Chris Wright pumped before the Trotwood/Dunbar Game

Get used to this ... Chris Wright is the real McCoy!

I attened the Trotwood Madison and Dunbar game yesterday evening. Chris Wright (33)played for Trotwood Madison and Josh Benson (22) played for Dunbar. These two future Flyers (Chris next year and Josh the following) squared off from the opening tipoff. Chris Wright had 29 points, 14 rebounds and 3 blocks. Junior Benson had 11 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocks. Wright is awesome and potentially the best player that the Flyers ever had to date.

Conference Record, RPI, SOS January 15, 2007

The Flyers still have the best RPI in the A-10 and one of the best RPI's at this time in UD history. The Flyers need to produce a great effort on the road this Wednesday against Charlotte to show the sports world that we can win on the road. Jerry Palm, the carekeeper of the RPI's predicts schools final record based upon the RPI. Jerry is predicitng a 23-6 record for our Flyers and a final RPI of 31. This is a big expectation to live up to since it only allows for two more losses and seven road wins!

Post Season Result After 11-3 or 12-4 Start

The Flyer Faithful are a little restless after the loss to Rhode Island on the road by one last Sunday; but lets look at recent Flyer history to brighten up our outlook.

Flyers Still Have Best RPI in A-10

Even though the Flyers lost to Rhode Island last Sunday and fell to seventh place in the A-10 standings, the Flyers still have a slim edge over Xavier for the lowest RPI. Jerry Palm has his 1st Brackets out and has Xavier in the NCAA as a 12th seed.

Ron's Review - Rhode Island

Ron’s Review – Rhode Island

By: Ron Thaman
FlyerHoops.net Staff Writer

The Score: University of Dayton Flyers (11-4; 1-1) 74, Rhode Island Rams
(9-7; 2-0) 75.

Series Details: The Flyers and the Rams are now 11-6 after this afternoon’s loss to the Rams.

The Flyers and the Rams: This second loss on the road hurt bad, real bad. The Flyers were poised to go 12-3 and gain some respect but a loss by one seems to hurt more than a loss by ten. The loss takes the Flyers out of first place in the A-10 standings with a one-one record in the A-10. The Flyers have to win on the road this season if we expect to get any post season play.

A look at the stats makes you wonder how we could have possibly lost but two key stats standout clear: turnovers and foul shots. Good teams that want to participate in March Madness shoot better than 53% from the free-throw line. As I said after the UNC game, the Flyers are a good basketball team but not a great one until they solve the free throw problem and learn to protect the ball better. The Flyers are off for six days and play at the UD Arena against LaSalle at 7PM Saturday.

Ron’s Stars of the Game: Its hard to find stars from a losing effort but Kurt Huelsman, Nick Stafford and Andres Sandoval contributed some quality time and effort to this afternoon game above an beyond our regulars.

What We Needed for a Win: My basic ingredients for a win will change very little as the season progresses and we can see who the Flyer Faithful can depend on for the score.

How Ron Did: Ron predicted a Flyers will win by 2 points, 72-70; how I wish that were true since we lost 74-75.

Ron's Preview - Rhode Island

Ron’s Preview – Rhode Island

By: Ron Thaman
FlyerHoops.net Staff Writer

The Teams: University of Dayton Flyers (11-3; 1-0) v. Rhode Island Rams
(6-7; 1-0).

Time and TV Coverage of Game: Sunday, January 7, 2007 12Noon EST at the Ryan Center in Kingston, Rhode Island. The game will be covered by radio WHIO 1290 with Larry Hansgen and Bucky Bockhorn. The game will also be covered in CSTV GameTracker available at: http://daytonflyers.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/sched/dayt-m-baskbl-sched.html.

Series Details: The Flyers and the Rams goes back to the 1939-40 season when Dayton played Rhode Island in White Plains, New York and won 59-51. Since the Flyers joined the A-10, fifteen more meetings have occurred between the Flyers and the Rams. The series now stands at 11-5 in Dayton’s favor.

The Flyers and the Rams: The Flyers and Rams will battle it out in Kingston this Sunday for the right to go 2-0 in the Atlantic 10 Conference. Currently both these teams won their first A-10 game. Dayton won a hard fought game against Charlotte and URI against LaSalle. These teams have no common opponents this season so far but the Rams have played some tough opponents: Boston College (68-86); DePaul (81-89) Ohio University (69-97) and Kansas (69-80).

The Rams have three players averaging in double figures: Will Daniels (17.5 ppg), Jimmy Baron (14.8 ppg) and Kahiem Seawright (11.3). Baron takes the most three’s and hits on 53.5% of those far beyond the arc. Daniel’s is also a threat from the 3-point at 52.8% made. Seawright needs to be guarded well not only because of his good shooting but he leads in rebounds, blocked shots and steals.

The Flyers have dropped two on the road against top 10 opponents and won at the neutral court against Louisville. Brian Gregory and his team need to gain some respect on the road against a good A-10 opponent. Expect a high scoring game.

Advantages & Disadvantages: The Flyers are at a disadvantage again, after trailing in stats with Pitt and UNC.

Roberts, Scott and Plummer were there along with Mark Jones, Trent Meacham and Marques Bennett. The Flyers were victorious by the score of 56-49 before 4,370 Fans

Brian Roberts!

Charles Little Contributed 12 Big Points in the Charlotte Game

Charles had several acrobatic shots last night in the 66-63 win over the 49ers. Here is just one of the memorable moments as the Flyers mounted their final attack.

Brian Roberts Joins 1000 Point Club

Brian Roberts joined the 1000 point club last night in the Flyer's heartpounding victory over conference foe Charlotte. Roberts only needed 16 points to hit the mark but the Flyers needed all of his 24 points to squeek out a victory 66-63.
